Box Set Body

This coming Monday sees the start of season 5 of Game of Thrones hit our screens on Sky Atlantic. I, like many of my box-set fanatic clients, am a big G.O.T fan and can shamelessly admit that I’ve managed to watch four series from start to finish in the space of six weeks. Box-sets are a great lifeline for us oblivious folk who missed all the hype first time round but they do have a habit of turning us all in to guilty addicts who, with the best intention of watching one episode, have managed to squeeze in three hours of viewing before the evening is over.

So, what’s my point? I guess it’s to offer some advice to make box-set marathons more beneficial than just viewing pleasure alone. If this lovely weather of late has tempted you to try and get fit for the summer, but you’re finding it hard to get motivated to start, then why not combine box-set marathon with fitness marathon, swap sofa-surfing with front room exertion? Putting it plainly – why not exercise while watching the latest Amercian hit? With a few bits of easily-stored and cost-effective kit the front room can provide the perfect workout environment and you needn’t feel guilty with all that telly viewing because you’re getting fit at the same time.

All you need is two pieces of equipment for a full body workout:
-         Kettlebell (2 or 3 weight ranges ideally but one will do) http://www.amazon.co.uk/kettlebells/b?ie=UTF8&node=458433031
-          TRX Suspension trainer

Combine these with body weight exercises such as squat thrusts, burpees, press ups, sit-ups, lunges and squats and you’re on to a winner with many exercise variations. There are lots of videos and advice online to help with different workouts. Remember, it doesn’t need to cost the earth and is a lot cheaper than gym membership.  You just need a bit of grit and determination.

If you’re looking for a more detailed fitness plan, tailored to your fitness needs/goals, then I’d be more than happy to help. Just give me a shout or check out my online personal training website www.stephensonstride.trainerize.com

For now, happy viewing. I’m off to work-out to Orange is the New Black!!
